2 movies at Cannes

The lady is back on the Croisette. We were at Cannes, for the third year in a row. And Deneuve was among the controversed stars of the year.
The second day of the Fest, the press have seen Pola X, the new Leos Carax movie. A bomb. Bad reviews and a less than popular box office the day adter, in Paris.
More, Deneuve has refused to do the press conference at Cannes. Carax was,'t really gentle to excuse her. Everyone felt some anger between the director and the star. She was hired for her blond hairs (important thing for the screenplay) and her international value (imprtant thing for the budget). She plays a possessive mother. But Carax has cut a lot of her part (and the best, according to Deneuve) in his theater version. The director's cut will be broadcasted by Arte. Deneuve was on the famous Cannes steps with Guillaume Depardieu.
Few days later, Deneuve is there again. Time Regained is a wide-screen adpatation of famous Marcel Proust's best seller. It's still a supporting role for Deneuve, who play's Emmanuelle Beart's mother: a not-so-young but still-beautiful woman, rich, witful and men-hunting. And she loves to spek english... Classical, stellar-casted, the movie is not a hit in France. But a lot of critics has appreciated the Raoul Ruiz's work.
Deneuve was just a ghost in Cannes, this year. Here for the photo calls, but the mind was elsewhere. She was saved from the troubles of the Award Ceremony.
